We all know the old adage from the property market, but what about meeting rooms?
Where you hold that all-important meeting can have as big an impact on the outcome as all the other considerations we sometimes worry over: whether to use PowerPoint or handouts, whether to hold the meeting in the morning or afternoon, what we should wear and who should attend.
While large companies often have whole office buildings that allow them to put across an image and impress visitors, smaller business may not be able to do this and may need to form different relationships with different suppliers, customers and other stakeholders.
The ability to rent meeting room venues around the city can therefore be a godsend for small businesses, and there is an increasingly interesting and impressive array of venues in which to hold meetings. London has a huge range of interesting buildings, monuments and attractions that make it one of the most exciting cities in the world. Small businesses can make use London’s uniqueness by picking the right meeting room venue.
Meeting rooms full of character and heritage
London and World War Two are synonymous. The blitz, the devastation in the east end, the sounding of air raid sirens and the sheltering of civilians in the underground tunnels are all ingrained in Londoners’ minds.
But there were also more subversive and, at the time, secretive activities going on all over London, all with the ultimate aim of winning the war for the allies and safeguarding Britain’s future should the worst happen and the Nazis invade.
One such place was 83 Baker Street, now home to an MWB Business Exchange Business Centre and meeting rooms. This site, previously known as Norgeby House, was the secret base of the Special Operations Executive (SOE), a covert network of spies set up by Churchill, during the Second World War. From this base the SOE set about their work winning back Europe from Hitler’s clutches and protecting the mainland. This group were not universally popular, with those heading up the war effort often becoming suspicious and jealous of SOE’s subversion and sabotage activities. However, there seems little doubt now that their work contributed to victory in 1945.
The SOE’s offices are now available as a meeting room venue and the significance of the former tenants has not been lost. All the meeting rooms in the building are themed around the war effort and make special reference to Winston Churchill. The décor is 1940’s themed (although all modern needs are catered for!) while tables show war maps of the time, creating a venue that oozes tradition, quality and class.
Rooms that reflect modern life in London
It not all history in London though, as the city is, of course, one of the world’s most modern and forward looking cities. It is home to some of the biggest and most important corporations in the world, many housing themselves in the new skyscrapers that have cropped up across the City and Docklands. Small businesses are able to enjoy and benefit from this modernity by hiring meeting rooms in some of London’s best and most stunning locations.
Canary Wharf is a modern London icon and MWB Business Exchange has meeting rooms available on the 33rd floor of the building, making them among the highest meeting rooms in London. From here the whole of London is at your feet. The history of the City, West End and Westminster are all visible while the future of London emerges before you to the east with the site of the 2012 Olympics rising before your eyes. Holding a meeting here can inspire through its views and its modern environment.
