The latest news from Wyboston Lakes

28 January

Wyboston Lakes is one of the UK’s largest and most versatile conference and training venues. Here’s news about some of its latest developments and achievements.

Off-peak rates now available from Wyboston Lakes

Event organisers are already responding enthusiastically to the new off-peak rates recently announced by Wyboston Lakes, the UK's largest privately owned single-site residential conference and training centre situated midway between Cambridge and Bedford.

The venue’s year planner, with dates of all off-peak weekdays and weekends during 2010, is now available. All days in February come into the category, as do the majority of weekends - and a number of other weekdays - during the year.

The off-peak rates provide significant cost savings. They apply to each of Wyboston Lakes’ three individual centres - The Robinson Executive Conference Centre, The Waterfront Conference Centre, and The Willows Training Centre - and are available for both day and residential events.

Last year the venue saw an increase in the number of off-peak bookings, and expects that level to be sustained in 2010.

A copy of the year planner, and an attractive ‘penguin’ pen pot holder, can be obtained by contacting the Wyboston Lakes sales team:

Pharma clients appreciate ABPI expertise

Tight industry standards on client hospitality within the pharmaceutical sector have brought a significant increase in business for Wyboston Lakes.

Over the past few years, the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI), the sector’s trade association, has taken steps to address perceived excesses of hospitality and entertainment, particularly in the area of sales events. Five-star, hotel based hospitality must not be a clinching factor: in simple terms, ABPI rules now demand that the function of any event must be communication, with accompanying facilities and services only serving to enhance that purpose.

As soon as the rules were introduced, Wyboston Lakes focused on understanding how pharmaceutical companies would need to turn them into practice, a policy that has certainly paid off. 'Our pharmaceutical clients very much appreciate the fact that we understand how to make sure they meet the challenge,' says Clive Bache, Sales and Marketing Director.

How does Wyboston Lakes help? 'It’s our experience that organisers now look first and foremost for venues that enable the message to be delivered, in an environment that is discreetly comfortable and welcoming,' adds Clive: 'So they’re looking for a more focused, practical environment, a venue whose business is communications rather than glamour and overt hospitality, and avoids that ‘no-expense spared’ impression.'

Wyboston Lakes’ pharma business is growing progressively, with an increasing number of training courses, assessment days, medical education or clinical development meetings, and product launches.

'We never close' - beating the weather underlines Wyboston Lakes’ accessibility

For organisers, there are lots of advantages in distraction-free out-of-town venues. But one of the things that might put them off is accessibility for guests and delegates, particularly when the weather poses challenges. Not in the case of Wyboston Lakes, whose outstanding transport links were underlined during the recent weeks of snow. The site never closed, and with only minor exceptions all events ran as planned.

The venue’s convenient, central location between Cambridge and Bedford is reinforced by the fact that it’s close to major roads which receive priority treatment in bad weather: literally two minutes from the A1 and in close proximity to the M1 and M11 and 40 minutes from the M25. Even if those roads had been at risk, there’s a mainline station nearby, just 45 minutes from London King’s Cross.

Accessibility is just one of the reasons why Wyboston Lakes is such a popular choice for a large and diverse portfolio of customers, ranging from FTSE Top 250 companies and government departments to SMEs, charities and not-for-profit organisations.

It’s the perfect solution: a peaceful, serene 350 acre site with lakes, trees – and even its own golf course – which is dedicated solely to conferences, meetings and training. No traffic, no tourists, none of the hassle of city or town based venues. But it couldn’t be simpler or more convenient to reach...and for those travelling by car there’s ample, free, security-monitored parking.
