Staff at Royal Armouries International plc pull together for local Leeds charity.

01 March

Staff at Royal Armouries International plc. and the Royal Armouries Museum have pulled together raising funds for St George’s Crypt in Leeds. They have supported the charity for several years now and the latest donation is no small change. The money raised by selling raffle tickets, donation boxes and other fundraising ideas has been used to purchase food and supplies, a very valuable commodity to the team who run the crypt, and more importantly the people they help.

The Crypt provides care and support to hundreds of homeless and destitute people every day and the donation helps many in need who are gripped by the coldest period of the year. It was reported in December that the services St George’s Crypt offer are being called upon to accommodate 50% more people than at this time last year.

To put into perspective what the team achieved by working together they donated: 6600 Cups of Tea, 5000 Cups of coffee, 600 kg of sugar, 400 portions of rice, 200 portions of pasta, enough flour to bake 90 loaves of bread, 400 bowls of breakfast cereal and enough cordial to make over 1400 drinks to wash it all down! To make a donation or just to find out more about the amazing work St George’s Crypt do for the less fortunate people of Leeds.

Jim Vincent, Managing Director of RAI plc said: 'it is good to see all the staff pulling together and making a difference to the environment we live in. I have always felt that here at RAI we are more than just a venue in Leeds, we are part of this city and we share in its successes and aim to improve the environment. We are great at creating top class events but we are also keen to support others in the city less fortunate than ourselves.'

Accessible destination in the heart of the country.

For Conference Delegates, Leeds is a compact city with most entertainment and attractions within walking distance.

It is the only English city outside London with its own repertory theatre, opera house and ballet companies. With an excellent shopping offer and nightlife scene, numerous restaurants and independent bars, it provides the perfect backdrop for Meetings and Events.

Access has always been good to Leeds and West Yorkshire, sitting as it does at the junction of the M1 and M62 motorway network, but recent improvements have led to an even greater choice of transport options. Trains run regularly between Leeds and London, with a journey time of just over two hours. The TransPennine Express serves the west- and east-coast destinations of Liverpool, Manchester, Hull, and York, while Virgin trains connect with the major cities of Newcastle, Birmingham, Sheffield, Bristol, Cardiff and Edinburgh.

Leeds Bradford International Airport flies to more than 40 British and European destinations including London, Edinburgh, Belfast, Amsterdam, Dusseldorf and Paris and is only 30 minutes from Clarence Dock.
