Employees from Wyboston Lakes have completed a tough walk along the South Downs Way in order to raise money for Bedford Child Development Centre which helps children with disabilities and special needs live their lives to the full.
The team of sixteen employees and two dogs covered a 109 mile route which started at Winchester in Hampshire and concluded at Eastbourne in East Sussex. During the five and a half day excursion the group stayed at youth hostels and ate pub grub in order to support two projects at The Child Development Centre, the production of a DVD for young people with Asperger's Syndrome, and improvements to the CDC Information Room, where parents can gain assistance and information relating to their children's problems.
The Wyboston Lakes’ walkers raised the money through sponsorship from work colleagues, family and friends.
Barry Stonham, operations director from Wyboston Lakes and organiser of the South Downs Way Walk said: 'I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who gave their time and donated funds to the charity. The five and a half day excursion was challenging but we all kept our spirits up, it has been an amazing experience to take part in this adventure. We plan to do the same next year and we will continue for as long as we can.'
Wyboston Lakes is gearing up for the next charity event in the calendar, the quiz night. The event will take place at the exclusive Robinson Executive Conference Centre, on 12th September and will once again be in aid of local charities.
