In addition to Manchester United’s celebrated success on the pitch last season – topping the Premier League and becoming European Champions – the club has been winning awards off it, picking up the Matchday Hospitality Experience Award 2008 at the Official Football Hospitality Awards, and scooping the prestigious Business Tourism Award at the Manchester Tourism Awards (pictured).
The Business Tourism Award acknowledges the importance of the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions sectors within the tourism industry – and Manchester United beat stiff competition to win the award for its non-match day operation. The club has invested heavily in the Conferences & Events part of its business, resulting in a significant increase in the number of events being held at Old Trafford.
To further enhance its offering to meet clients’ needs, the club is in the process of refurbishing its popular Manchester Suite – one of the largest purpose-built event spaces in the region. The suite is undergoing a £120,000 modernisation to ensure it continues to reflect the high standards of facilities that clients expect at Old Trafford.
The club has recently invested in Meeting Matrix software, which enables clients to ‘experience’ their event before it takes place. The software allows users to design and view interactive room diagrams and take a virtual walk through the event, viewing the space in fine detail – right down to the table linen and flowers.
