West Sussex conference venue Wilton Park has made a significant investment into its catering offer by enhancing and refurbishing its main kitchen equipment. The extensive makeover enables the venue’s chefs to deliver an increased range of meals and continue to provide excellent silver service in the Elizabethan Great Hall (left).
Wilton Park, a member of Conference Centres of Excellence (CCE), is based at Wiston House, a 16th-century Grade I-listed building surrounded by 5,000 acres of parkland at the foot of the South Downs.
‘Maintaining and improving on the food quality we deliver to our diverse range of international conference delegates, and to our commercial event guests, is one of our key priorities,’ says general manager Tim Willows. ‘Our reputation for food and service excellence helps us to retain our valued current clients, and attract new people to us. We can be selective in the way that we market ourselves, based on this reputation.’
The new range of kitchen equipment was designed and installed by Beacon Design, who came to Wilton Park through the CCE network. The refurbishment is centered around a new range of appliances from MKN, the German manufacturers of premium professional cooking technology.
Beacon Design and MKN delivered a full turn-key approach, enabling full refurbishment in three days. ‘We spent a good amount of time working through all of the design aspects with Beacon Design and MKN, including site reference visits. This helped us in making the transition,’ says head chef Ian Sherwin.
Products in the MKN Optima 700 range are highly efficient, with correspondingly low energy consumption. This matches Wilton Park’s core ethos of environmental management. The transfer to all-electric appliances also guarantees that Wilton Park can continue to provide all main services to customers in the event of power disruption, as these facilities are included within stand-by generator coverage.
Wilton Park is owned by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office. Sustainable development and the environment are key international policy priorities for the UK Government; they also form one of the main policy themes of Wilton Park conferences.
