 Following a £6.3m refurbishment and a score of test events ranging from stand up comedy to a performance by the Water City Festival Orchestra, the Great Hall at Queen Mary, University of London is once again open for business.
Restored to its art-deco glory, the Great Hall offers seating for up to 770 guests over two levels. The lower level features retractable 'bleacher' seating to aid flexibility, enabling the venue to accommodate a variety of events from theatrical performances to exhibitions alongside use as a networking, examination or rehearsal space. A key part of the project has been to enhance the support space within the venue, which now features a dedicated box office/ registration area, Foyer bar/café, greater circulation space and an outdoor terrace.
The audience experience has also been a central consideration with the installation of state of the art theatrical lighting and audio-visual systems alongside an automatic cooling and ventilation system and enhanced circulation space.
In support of this new offering, a dedicated ‘Great Hall’ website has been created giving those interested access to learn about the hall including technical information as well as the ability to download all the information they need to plan an event.
