Following a hugely successful outing in Edinburgh earlier this year, Dare ProtoPlay – an event at which the public can road-test newly designed video games – is coming to London’s Old Spitalfields Market next week as part of the London Games Festival.
Dare ProtoPlay 2008, which runs from 28-29 October, is the public showcase event of Dare to be Digital, the UK’s premier design competition for students who love to play video games and want to design their own. Dare to be Digital, organised and promoted by the University of Abertay, is an internationally renowned proving ground for talented computer science and art students to design their own original video game.
Run in association with Channel 4, Dare ProtoPlay is a yearly video game extravaganza where young, aspiring designers showcase their finished game prototypes to industry experts and the public. One of the teams will win a coveted BAFTA ‘Ones to Watch’ award. Visitors to Dare ProtoPlay are encouraged to spot the BAFTA winner, to be announced in March 2009.
The two-day event at Old Spitalfields Market is a wonderful opportunity for families to have an enjoyable free day out, for artists and developers to check out the newest ideas, for students to find out about careers in the games industry, and for gamers to play 17 new computer games created by upcoming artists and developers.
Old Spitalfields Market (left) is an ideal venue for this exciting, digital event. This unique historical venue provides a large, flexible central area that can be adapted to offer any size of event space from 200 square metres to more than 600. There are also plenty of restaurants and eateries where visitors can refuel after playing sessions.
More information of the event can be found on the Dare to be Digital website: www.daretobedigital.com.
