Aston University in Birmingham has appointed Fiona Foster to a new role as director of catering and conference services at Conference Aston, the university’s portfolio of conference and meeting venues.
Conference Aston boasts world-class meeting facilities throughout its three venues, including award-winning chefs and luxurious four-star standard hotel bedrooms, and is a proud member of Conference Centres of Excellence, the UK’s leading consortium of dedicated specialist training and conference centres.
The venues attract a wide variety of business and academic clients, including high street retailers, charities, government departments and NGOs.
Fiona was brought up in Birmingham, and her career has taken her across the UK in a variety of hospitality roles, including academic venues and the travel and leisure industry. During her first week, Fiona welcomed a diverse group of delegates and guests, including one sustainable energy equipment company which chose Conference Aston because of its central UK location and its green credentials.
‘This venue is an absolute delight,’ Fiona says. ‘There is everything here on site that a conference delegate could ever want, all set in an environment conducive to learning. And for conferences lasting several days, all the attractions of Birmingham are right on the doorstep.
‘Seeing really is believing – the facilities at Conference Aston boast arguably the most stylish in the academic venue arena, and were specifically created to deal with the demands of a world-class business audience. Our team works hard to make sure that our clients receive a standard of service to match.
‘I am lucky to begin this role with an experienced and professional team in place. I wasn’t surprised to discover that members of both the catering and housekeeping staff had been nominated for awards in the last few months.’
