The Chester Grosvenor and Spa, a design-led five-star property situated in the centre of Chester, recently completed refurbishment to its restaurant, which has been relaunched as Simon Radley at the Chester Grosvenor, in honour of its Michelin-starred chef.
The makeover of the restaurant and the hotel’s much-loved Arkle Bar has been carefully orchestrated in order to upgrade and modernise without losing any original charm and character. The dining area reassuringly retains its confident and comfortable atmosphere and style, providing an appropriately updated backdrop for Simon Radley’s talents. The walls are upholstered in contemporary damask silk, and dining chairs are generously sized and stylish.
The bar has gained a slightly more international feel without losing its quintessential English ambience. A smart new long bar has been placed modestly to the rear of the space, providing an upbeat ‘place to be seen’ with cool, smart and tailored design in a neutral colour palette. The wall panelling features modern understated mahogany detailing, and the floor finish is enhanced with Jura limestone. Newly commissioned contemporary artworks link carefully with the bar’s original equine theme in a new take on the Arkle concept.
The original brief for the hotel’s refurbishment has been successfully met: to update with care and contemporise without abandoning the links with tradition, excellent service and professionalism associated with the Chester Grosvenor and Spa.
