The University of Leicester has recently opened its newest lecture theatre – part of the impressive £32m David Wilson Library project – with two of the best-known names from the world of science: Professor Sir Alec Jeffreys and Professor Stephen Hawking.
The University of Leicester was the centre of a historic discovery over two decades ago, when Professor Jeffreys discovered DNA fingerprinting. His recent lecture (pictured) was entitled Genetic Fingerprinting – Past, Present and Future.
Professor Hawking, who is an honorary graduate of the University of Leicester, presented his world-famous lecture, The Origin of the Universe.
The new theatre is fully equipped with a state-of-the-art audio-visual system, and can comfortably seat up to 484 delegates. In addition to the main seating space there is a dedicated seating area suitable for up to 17 speakers, presenters and organisers.
An additional three large seminar rooms can be used in conjunction with the theatre, and are ideal for break-out sessions or board meetings.
