 Cavendish Conference Centre in London was the venue for the National Scrabble Championships Final earlier this month – and proved yet again to be a winning venue for the competition’s organisers.
The Championship has been held at the Cavendish every year since the venue first opened, and the centre has hit the headlines once again with national news coverage in the Times, the Telegraph and on TV news programmes. The actual competition is in its 37th year but moved to the Cavendish in 2001, when it was one of the first events to be held at the venue.
The event was the final of a series of regional first-stage competitions where over 300 scrabble enthusiasts competed to become the National Scrabble Champion. The final two players challenged each other to seven games in one day with approximately 100 spectators in attendance.
 Philip Nelkon of event organisers Mattel UK was full of praise for the venue. ‘The flexible and spacious layout, combined with the attractive interior lends itself perfectly to staging the Scrabble Championship finals,’ he said.
