The Nottinghamshire Convention Bureau has won a major new contract as part of the 2010 Samsung Hockey Champions Trophy.
The Bureau, which is the business tourism arm of Experience Nottinghamshire, will provide team accommodation and conferencing facilities for the event in July 2010.
Nottingham is the first UK city to host the Samsung Hockey Champions Trophy, recognised as one of the leading tournaments in women’s hockey. It will see the top six teams in the world competing at Highfields Hockey Club to take the title, won by Argentina at this year’s event in Sydney, Australia.
'This contract is a great boost for the local economy,' commented Andy Melton, conference tourism co-ordinator at the Nottinghamshire Convention Bureau. 'We’ll be accommodating around 150 players, coaches and physiotherapists at hotels across the city. On top of that, we also have the officials, VIP’s and sporting media, not to mention the thousands of hockey fans expected to travel to Nottingham to support their nation.
'As well as the accommodation, we’ll be arranging two conferences connected to the tournament, taking place at the Days Hotel in the city centre.
'Organisers recently visited the city to take a tour of the hotels we’ll be using, as well as some of Nottinghamshire’s most famous landmarks. They are thrilled with how preparations are going and are looking forward to a hugely successful tournament next summer.'
The Nottinghamshire Convention Bureau has previously worked alongside England Hockey, supplying accommodation for an international friendly against Australia earlier this year.
