Venuemasters has elected David Meli from The University of Leeds as its new chairman. Previous chairman, John Clayton from Croeso-Welcome Bangor, has now left the University, and so stood down at the last AGM in November 2006.
David Meli (pictured) is looking forward to his new role: ‘I am extremely honoured to be elected chairman of Venuemasters. At a time when organisers and customers are looking for something different from their venues, universities offer a credible and attractive alternative to the norm. Venuemasters is at the forefront of promoting their benefits to the marketplace and my aim is to continue to raise the profile of our growing membership.’
In addition, two new members were elected to the board. David Goodwin from the University of Portsmouth returns for his second term and Melanie Loizou from Royal Holloway, University of London was voted in for the first time. Both members hope to bring some fresh ideas to the table to help continue the consortium’s progress in the business, leisure and tourism market.
Venuemasters chief executive, Terry Billingham commented: ‘It’s beneficial to have a cycle of board members as it helps to generate new ideas and encourages the sharing of best practice. It’s a great forum for the members to contribute to the development of the consortium, which is then of direct benefit to their own venue.’
Venuemasters represents 95 academic venues across the UK, promoting their facilities for meetings, group accommodation and short breaks. The consortium is a not for profit membership organisation and reports to a volunteer board of directors, which is elected by the members. The board members are rotated at the annual general meeting.
