 The Meetings Industry Association (MIA) has made two new appointments to its team: Jo Carpenter as the association’s first full-time PR and communications officer, and Janet Powell, who joins as the MIA’s customer relations executive and webmaster.
With seven years' experience as a qualified journalist, Jo Carpenter (pictured left) will be responsible for generating external publicity for the MIA and its accreditation scheme, AIM. Jo will also manage an internal PR campaign among MIA clients, to improve communication and help increase membership.
Jo has worked for a number of weekly and daily regional newspapers, most recently as a news editor, and spent a year managing press and marketing for the Deco Theatre and Conference Centre in Northampton. She is very excited to be taking on a newly created role at the MIA. ‘This is a wonderful opportunity for me,’ she says, ‘and I am looking forward to maintaining the high profile of the MIA.’
 Janet Powell (pictured left) has 30 years’ experience in the public sector, and worked for the MIA as a temporary administrator for six months prior to accepting her new permanent appointment. In her role as customer relations executive, Janet will be the point of contact between the MIA and its members, and will help promote good business practice. As webmaster she will also be responsible for maintaining the MIA’s website.
Janet comes to the MIA following a very diverse career, having worked as a London beat police officer and a library assistant before settling in estate management. She is now delighted to be joining the MIA at such an exciting time: ‘I am looking forward to helping to build better relations between the MIA and our members,’ she says.
