VENUEMASTERS, the consortium representing over 80 UK academic venues, announce the results of its annual awards. All member venues are eligible to submit entries for three categories; Best Web Activity, Best Marketing Activity and new for 2009 the Personal Achievement award.
The winners of the evening were UEA Conferences who took home the award for Best Web Activity. Brunel Conference Services and LSE Residences were both highly commended in this category. The joint winners of the Best Marketing Activity were Well Met Conferencing and Nottingham Conferences. The joint winners of the Personal Achievement award were Judith Aird and Harriet Sargeant from Event Durham and The University of Leeds respectively, whilst Steve Whyte from Event Exeter was highly commended.
The winners of the VENUEMASTERS mystery buyer project were also announced at the event. Event Durham and Royal Holloway University of London both achieved identical scores and were joint winners. This is the second year in a row that Event Durham has won this award.
The judging panel this year was made up of three industry professionals. Ash Young is a web developer and digital marketing expert who founded Evoluted, a successful web development and design agency. Liz Sharples has worked at Sheffield Hallam University for the last 29 years and is the subject and team leader for the Events Management group. Monica Moynihan helped form progressive training in 1988. She has worked with a number of universities providing bespoke training and consultancy.
The VENUEMASTERS awards were introduced in 2003 to reward the marketing efforts of academic venues in a number of key categories and they are now a respected industry accolade. The awards were announced on the 12 November 2009, during the gala dinner at the VENUEMASTERS annual conference which was held at Southampton Solent University and was attended by over 100 delegates.
Terry Billingham, Chief Executive of VENUEMASTERS, commented; 'I’d like to congratulate this year’s VENUEMASTERS Award winners. The standard continues to improve and this year’s judging panel had a tough job deciding between the entries. We’ve also introduced a new award to recognise the venue staff who go the extra mile for their customers. Academic venues have a lot to offer event organisers and it’s great to recognise the efforts made by the venues.'
