The Westminster Collection Presents £1,000 to London Early Years Foundation

25 January

René Dee, CEO from The Westminster Collection (TWC), recently took time out from promoting the organisation's unique collection of London venues to make a special philanthropic visit to one of the capital's favourite daycare settings, itself housed in a humble yet no less impressive historical building.

Nestled between government offices and local residential housing at the heart of Westminster, it had been a typical day of fun-fuelled learning for staff and children of Marsham Street Community Nursery, part of London's largest childcare charity and social enterprise, the London Early Years Foundation (LEYF). Still, energy levels remained high and the welcome no less enthusiastic on the arrival of the day's special guest.

Presenting a cheque for £1000, raised at a TWC networking event (when instead of providing goody bags, venues and suppliers associated with The Westminster Collection kindly made a donation), René was then presented with a Thank You card made by the nursery's children and given a tour of the distinguished location that has also served as LEYF's Head Office since the early 1930s.

Speaking during the visit, LEYF Fundraising Manager, Elaine Angelis, was in no doubt about the potential impact of the support offered by TWC: 'The London Early Years Foundation is delighted to be the recipient of such a generous donation by The Westminster Collection. Although we already offer low income local parents subsidised rates to make such crucial childcare more accessible, the increasing number of families unable to afford even these lower fees means this new donation will quickly make a real difference.

'As part of our recent 'Step out of Poverty' initiative, funds will be used to offer free, lower cost, flexible and emergency childcare places to the many disadvantaged children In Westminster. Due to increasing financial pressures which are then often compounded by other problems at home, many children still lack the undisputed equal opportunities provided by specialist pre-school education at such a crucial stage in a child's early development.

'Thanks to this kind donation from TWC, we will be able to continue offering a better future for London's children.'

Speaking on behalf of The Westminster Collection, René Dee added: 'It was a pleasure to meet with both LEYF nursery and Head Office staff, and especially wonderful to meet the children; I felt truly honoured and love their card! We welcome the London Early Year's Foundation as our 4th Affiliate Member and look forward in certainty to a mutually beneficial relationship in the future.'
