David Blunkett, Jake Meyer and Ken Hames will be the three keynote speakers at this year’s National Venue Show taking place at Birmingham NEC, 25th-27th September. This high profile line up underlines the increasing popularity of this industry event.
The first day will see Jake Meyer, the youngest Briton to ever conquer Everest. At the age of 14 Meyer set himself the challenge of becoming the youngest person to climb the 7 summits; the highest mountain on each continent. At the age of 21 he stood on the summit of Mount Everest thus becoming the youngest Briton to ever climb Everest as well as the youngest man in the world to complete the 7 summits. He now takes these extraordinary life experiences to the toughest of event audiences, demonstrating how focus and drive can help us all to reach our personal and professional ambitions.
The lunch time session on the second day will see Ken Hames, one of the country's leading motivational speakers, provide a fascinating insight into pressure, survival, teamwork and motivation. Following an impressive military career, Ken has been responsible for many TV documentaries including ‘Mission Africa’, building an eco lodge and game reserve as a sustainable business for the local people. He is also the expedition leader for the soon to be seen BBC2 documentaries ‘Beyond Boundaries.’ His presentation ‘Lead, Follow, Change or Get Out of the Way,’ offers a powerful comparison between leading hardened SAS soldiers and the pressures of modern business practice. His main aim is to promote development, provide motivation and give inspiration to leaders and managers.
Finally on the third day, former Home Secretary David Blunkett will give his keynote speech. Blind since birth and describing not being able to see as simply 'an inconvenience,' David became one of the first of very few blind MPs to reach the front bench and Cabinet, previously chairing the Labour Party nationally and managing education and employment in Tony Blair’s first government. An inspirational speaker, David’s remarkable story of achievement in the face of so many challenges, will show anyone who attends this session how they can reach personal and professional goals in spite of the obstacles faced everyday.
Duncan Reid, Event Director, Confex Group said: 'This is a great line up and it underlines the growing profile of thought leaders that are engaging with our industry. Each speaker has a different insight into building upon motivation and leadership and we want both exhibitors and visitors to benefit from them. We look forward to welcoming them to the show.'
