Here, Steve Perkins, director of Sales for Progressive Resources, the South's leading team building company, takes a look at corporate entertainment in the modern day real world.

Corporate entertainment is perceived in a variety of different ways. Taking clients to the races, motivating your staff, team building, morale boosting, employee parties, prospecting via fun and social events...this list goes on.

So what is corporate entertainment really about? Gone are the days when employees are a number or a name on a clock in card. Business today is about the people it employs, the people who make the profit cogs whirr, people at the front line and everyone else who makes your business work.

In a fast food restaurant chain who is the most valuable asset, the board of directors, the strategic management team or the person in the cap serving us our meal? Who does the customer experience and value most? The answer here is that one can't function without the other. We have to function in a climate of unity with one common goal to succeed. Would Michael Schumacher win his races without the world's best refueller?

Companies are continuously increasing the level of commitment and value they place on their staff, recognising that a happy workforce are a productive workforce. This goes beyond a pat on the back or annual bonus. It has to be an ongoing stimulant to the workforce keeping the infectious levels of morale high across the board.

Corporate entertainment has been used in its simplest form for many years. 4x4 driving, clay pigeon shooting, a jolly at the dogs...but has it become the norm? Employees seek more these days as higher levels of demand are placed on them; they require high levels of stimulation.

A key ingredient and foundation to any high level and power full team is morale. Professor John Addair many years ago defined morale as the condition of a team based on their confidence. Think about it. Think about any of your lifetime achievements as extreme as they may be. Abseiling is a great example. If you have ever done one you will know of the sheer terror you experience as you edge yourself over the ledge into the unknown with your mind telling your body how wrong every step is. As you start to work your way down and learn to trust the rope you start to enjoy it! By the time you hit the bottom you are elated with joy, confidence and funny enough morale. This morale is natural and can and will breed amongst others. It's this level of morale and confidence which is innate in some of the world's best teams, not just in business but in sport and many other forms. We just need to find the right stimulant to keep the morale consistent.

Around 12 years ago the Americans fashioned a phrase. This phrase was 'team building' a new phenomenon that perhaps was to replace corporate entertainment. Not in the sense of entertaining our customers but in the sense of entertaining and valuing our staff.

'Team building' has evolved over the years to be an integral part of most companies' staff training and development programmes. It's also used as a tool and catalyst to bond staff through company mergers, to kick start a newly formed team, or to re focus the minds of those within a team to think as a cohesive unit rather than a group of individuals. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts. The results which can be created in a day from a structured team building event can often take years to create in the everyday workplace with such busy daily schedules. So the value in any team building event speaks for itself. Any team building event should pay for itself many times over in many different ways.

At Progressive Resources, we always start with the key ingredient: FUN. We learn by fun, we develop by fun and we bond by fun. If work can be fun then why can't fun be work! Any message can be delivered to any audience if they are enjoying themselves. Even if it's as simple as entertaining all of your staff with a giant family fun day, as long as the right ingredients are there for all ages including the children then your message will be delivered. What a great company to work for, spousal endorsement, being recognised and enjoying yourself amongst your peers. Will the topic of conversation on Monday be more than the insincere clichè: 'Morning, had a good weekend?'

In over 18 years in corporate entertainment and teambuilding we have grown with our clients to offer over 50 unique different team building events from The Parmesan Job (a full recreation of the Italian job with teams in BMW Mini's armed with all manner of gadgets) to creating your company's very own annual calendar (with your staff as the models - in creative costume of course). We take our focus from your objectives which in every case are different. We have an amazing team of consultants who are there to listen, understand and educate themselves on your requirements. This gives them the fuel and knowledge which they need to create up to ten bespoke solutions for our clients every day. By managing every aspect of the experience from venue, to travel, to accommodation and conference production we make the sometimes daunting journey of event organising a pleasure allowing you to relax and be involved on the event itself.

We have a dedicated team of over 80 staff delivering solutions everyday across the UK and Europe. They have a passion for what they are doing. As a company we ourselves take great value in our staff as they are our front line. They make the difference on the day!

In 2003 Spot On Entertainment was pleased to be asked to participate in an episode of the popular documentary BBC programme Inside Out and the profile displayed at the time resulted in a steady increase in quality tribute bands and lookalikes being added to an already over-flowing database. This was the turning point in the company's progress and it has never looked back.

Now with the launch of Spot on Events Direct the company hopes to venture into new, and as yet undiscovered, territories and with current lateral and forward thinking perceptions this is a company that will not fail.

The main mission statement encompasses all that is good in the Entertainment Industry today – if you're a Spot On performer we can put you On the Spot and In the Spotlight!

Spot on Events Direct are currently arranging Theatre, Castle and Cathedral events throughout the UK with a vision to launch into Europe and beyond.

This concept is actively being pursued at a time when the parent company, Spot On Entertainment Ltd, is being called upon to assist with new prime TV shows currently under wraps with BBC, TV and a whole host of Production and Media companies competing to produce the next 'Talent' show to hit our screens.

"We've always been in demand for these types of shows and have consistently supplied acts of the highest calibre to all the top shows, including the Paul O’Grady and Graham Norton shows, but this year our workload is tripling as we launch this new arm to our company," says Gill McGill, Spot On's Managing Director.

Our lookalikes and tributes are currently working world-wide as we build up a strong client base in the UK and Europe. Our Top Tributes have recently returned from Egypt, Dubai, Italy, Spain and Poland and there are ongoing commitments as satisfied clients return to re-book.

This is a company that does not stand still and recognises that in an ever changing world there is no benefit in being a stagnating and single-minded company. Our concept and vision establishes us as a force to be reckoned with in the 21st century!

Let us Entertain you.
